The Next Dorr
The Next Dorr is an interactive website that aims to inspire change on Dorr Street in Toledo, OH. This was collaborative project between professor Andre Cardinal and the whole class of ARTD 4055 at Bowling Green State University. This website prototype was built in a semester as the class worked on building our antiracist practice. Dorr Street was a flourishing center of Black culture in the Toledo area. The Urban Renewal Project funded the destruction of Dorr Street and promised to rebuild. However, Dorr Street was never rebuilt to what it once was. The website’s call to action was to have children in Toledo create an e-postcard with what they would want to see on Dorr Street. After creating the e-postcard it could be mailed or emailed to local government officials to inspire action to be taken.
This project was created for an academic course at Bowling Green State University.

Finding the right illustration style was important. This was an iteration that we worked through. We wanted to get away from any corporate or minimalist style.
Here is the illustration style we ended on. It is the perfect amount of colorful and detailed to ensure children would be enticed to interact with the site and the building of the postcard.
